Jyrki was introduced to boating shortly after he was born in 1959. Both his parents were Finnish Champions in sailing. Jyrki started sailing with his Optimist dinghy at the age of five followed by various other dinghy classes and keel boats.
He started his professional boating career as a rigger in a local boat dealer in Helsinki, Finland. The year was 1981. Two years later, a company where he worked started to import Sea Ray boats from America. As a final year’s engineering student, Jyrki had a chance to build boats at Sea Ray’s Merritt Island Florida plant during the summer of 1985. The Finnish Sea Ray dealer was successful; selling around one thousand boats between 1983 and 1991. During the previous economic recession in Finland in 1991, Jyrki briefly became an entrepreneur but shortly founded a new Sea Ray dealership together with a well-known Finnish private company Wihuri Oy. This company is now called Wihuri Power Products, representing Sea Ray, Sunseeker, Fairline and Boston Whaler brands.
In 1996, Jyrki enrolled to Helsinki Business School for a two year MBA program. During this period he consulted Aquador and Jonmeri boat manufacturing firms.
Sea Ray Boats hired Jyrki directly from University of Washington in Seattle to establish a Sea Ray Yacht Centre in Cannes, France. This Centre had a permanent display of products available for all dealers in the area.
Jyrki joined Simpson Marine in Singapore, as their General Manager of Sales in 2003. This company is representing Azimut, Benetti, Beneteau and Lagoon brands.
In 2006 Jyrki opened Western Marine in Dubai. The brands included Aicon, Marquis, Carver, Jeanneau and Windy.
Jyrki is holding a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Thermodynamics and an MBA in Marketing.
